Native American Sports Heroes

The Native American Sports Heroes Series was begun in 2008 to focus attention  on people and teams of interest to particular readers. Readers do not need to read  all books in the series as each book is to stand by itself. Readers will select those volumes of interest to themselves. Background information is provided in each volume in the series to make the book understandable by readers who are new to the topic. The initial books in the series cover Carlisle Indian School Football stars with ties to specific geographic areas. Some biographies will necessarily be repeated because the person had strong ties to more than one place. For example, Gus Welch and Lone Star Dietz both were from Wisconsin and later coached at Washington State. Other volumes in the series will  cover particular teams such as the 1905 Carlisle Indians who defeated Army in an historic game. There won’t be a book for Ohio because those players will be included in  the volume on Carlisle Indians in the NFL. Eventually, there should be volumes on Haskell Institute  and  girls’ teams of significance.
